Design studio 3 - Scalability - Designing yourself out

Through this class we designed ourselves out in classroom circumstances, which was personally so much more relieving than starting it after MDEF, when we are already designed out by our curriculum. The topics were familiar to me, because I had the opportunity to meet Clément and listen to his very amazing story about scaling his interventions up to Aqui. I had the opportunity to talk to him, just the two of us and also I had the opportunity with him and Angel to have a great conversation with the Carelab about mission driven design practices and about scaling our mission to intervention, the intervention to a mission followed by others.

My favourite part of the class was when Clément engaged is in multiple activities and through those activities it was easier to understand what are the theoretical concepts behind scaling interventions into mission based, studios, academic research, collectives or freelance project. We formed groups, with similar aims where we discussed why are we interested in the establishment of the chosen formula, in my, Angel’s, Busi’s, Kai’s and Paula’s case it was a network. Later on we had to discuss what we understand about the formation and what we don’t and by the end we were able to understand why would it be suitable for us or why not and what do we have to do to make it happen.
