Challenge 3
For this challenge: Angel, Anna, Roberto and I teamed up to create something that interacts with people in an ethical way.
On this repository you can read all the details of our project.
With Angel we worked together previously on some participatory workshops, which our interest was, to create empathy through co-creational methods in kids and parents through getting to know other agents in public spaces and to understand how design in urban areas affect other citizens just like themselves.
So our aim was to create an ethical way of designing spaces, interventions in the city, to make it ethical and equitable for all, create something that involves citizens in the process and ‘talks’ to them in a participatory way.
On the way going out to Poblenou's spaces and places for mapping possibilities, Anna started to bring up some ethical topics with the newly installed trash can system. So we decided to start to deal with the garbage bins, which already created a conversation in between us, assuming there is some bigger one out in the city.
So we created a tool for collectively reflecting on the effectiveness or meaningfulness of urban (public) design bins by the citizens of the community.
The most urgent topics which were involved in the design decision process through the week:
- Ethical question such as data collecting:f we collect data, we have to be transparent and share the data with the public, so we are involving them in a public knowledge about their environment.
- Conceptualisation question:To not add random buttons, sensors to random parts of the trash bin, we used the analogy of using it on a normal daily basis and created parts which only modify but not create new parts.
Here is a sketch about the workflow of it:
