Design Studio
Video Journaling and Other Forms of 1PP Documentation
This design studio was a bit different than the others, because of two reasons: The first is that I spent it in my homa country and learnt about class from my classmates and from the presentation and materials they used at the class. The second, but the most imposrtant reason is, that we had a special guest, Kate who taught us about different ways of documentation (Documentation beyond) and walked the class through many special ways of sensing the information that is happening around us during our lectures. Kate gave us a task, to document the next two weeks (which were Tech beyond the myth classes) through a special lense and reflect on how we are documenting and presenting our works.
When thinking about my ways of documenting and presenting my work, I started thinking about the my whole history of studying documenting and presenting and the influenc they have on my current documentation.
- BA studies: documentation through reflection, document how you can, but mostly paper based
- BA Study abroad: documentation guidelines for folder, sketching, ideating, digital presentation and physical presentation
- 1st job: no guidelines just folder system
- 2nd job: folder system, notion database, every documentation and step followed on communication platforms, time measurements, documentation guidelines, log writing about every task
- MA studies, MDEF: documentation through reflection, system building for our own documentation through our website, Design space
What I use from these now?
- My own folder structure based on past experiences
- documentation system through visual library (video, voice audio, slides, photography, sketching)
- Online platforms for data bases and mind maps: Miro, Notion
- Manual and digital note taking
For the assignment I did an experiment. In this experiment I used the video documentation as a teaching tool to myself, to be more aware of which ways of documenting help me the most to understand the information through our classes. First I examined the ways how I most usually capture information. Then I started consciously recording them to have it documented when and for what did I use the different kind of methods. This documented documentation helped me to see which ways help me the most to remember, and understand the data and information with the eyes of an outsider.
